City Of Akron Sells 1.4 Acres To Ohio Pure Foods To Retain 82 Akron JobsTuesday July 18, 2017

Mayor Horrigan introduced and Akron City Council approved the sale of 1.4 acres of City-owned land off West Waterloo Road to Ohio Pure Foods for a warehouse expansion. The land sale will retain 82 Akron jobs and is expected to result in the creation of additional Akron jobs.

Ohio Pure Foods (Country Pure Foods) is an Akron-based company that sells a variety of juice products to schools, hospitals, and other large organizations. Earlier this year, Country Pure Foods announced they were moving their administrative offices and research and development lab to the O’Neil’s building on Main Street in downtown Akron.

The juice company has outgrown their existing warehouse space on Waterloo Road, and reached out to the City to indicate they were having difficulty finding additional cold storage in the area. The City of Akron owned land adjacent to the company’s existing warehouse space.

“It was important for us to prevent these local jobs from moving out of Akron,” Mayor Horrigan said. “We are pleased that Country Pure Foods has demonstrated their commitment to Akron and is planning to expand their operations here.”

The land was sold to Country Pure at the City’s standard price.  The company will invest approximately $6 million in the construction of an approximately 24,000 square foot cold storage warehouse.
